Jon Keller is Not a Closet Republican, More Like a JFK Democrat
WBZ-TV’s Jon Keller is being maligned by the left-wing blogs because he actually criticized a Democrat — our fearless leader, Governor Deval Patrick, and his top 20 accomplishments, to be specific. Who can blame Keller? Patrick takes credit for projects that are still a work in progress and expects everyone to sing his praises. And where the heck are those property tax rebates he promised during his campaign?
This from Holly Robichaud in the Boston Herald:
Is there really an ethical problem with Jon Keller criticizing Deval Patrick because he son is the spokesman for the Republican Party??? No Way.
First of all, Jon Keller has been a respected media guru for years. He treats Republicans and Democrats in the same manner.
Second, Barney Keller is allowed to have a career in his hometown and in the same profession as his father. Many sons follow in their father’s footsteps. In fact hasn’t it been happening since the days for John Adams? I believe Ted Kennedy’s son went into the same profession.
This questioning of the Kellers is not about ethics. It is about Barney being a Republican, and therefore, Jon may be guilty of being a closet Republican. (I have watched Jon for years and he one of the most knowledgeable and fair reporters in the business, so I don’t think any one can accuse him of being a card-carrying member of the GOP.)
But for the remaining Deval defenders, the only logical reason why Jon would criticize Governor Patrick is due to his son’s involvement in the Republican Party. I guess good journalism is not a possibility.
For those who have been living under a rock our new Governor has done a miserable job. He lied to us about property taxes, he failed to get the 1000 new police officers on the streets, and he went to New York to sign a book deal on the day of casino vote.
Both Jon and Barney Keller were just doing their jobs and it happened that Republicans were right on point this time.
Btw, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend Jon Keller’s book, The Bluest State. You’ll see he’s pretty much a JFK Democrat, which in today’s parlance is an unenrolled person!
