RE: Republicans Lead the Way on Civil Rights
Sharilee, it gets better than that.
Question: Which party in Congress had a majority voting FOR the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and which party had a majority voting AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
Answer: A majority of the Democrats in Congress voted AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was a MAJORITY of Republicans, and a MINORITY of Democrats, that passed the bill. But because Lyndon Johnson was President and the Democrats had a majority of Congress, they’ve taken the credit.
By the way, this is the SAME 1964 Republican Party that nominated Mr. Conservative Barry Goldwater for President.
