Obama Administration Planned Attack on Rush
Apparently the Obama administration has been planning the attack on Rush Limbaugh for months. You know those Chicago boys…always need some distractions to keep people’s eyes off the dirty politics and/or incompetence behind the scenes.
Here’s my question — shouldn’t they be spending their time in a more productive fashion?
A tip of the hat to Mark for this link to the Rush Limbaugh story on Townhall.com:
This week it’s been revealed that President Obama’s top White House advisors are launching a long-planned Nixonian attack on Rush Limbaugh intended to hurt the Republican Party. This Chicago-style strategy is the exact opposite of what President Obama promised during the campaign. While he promised to be the next Ronald Reagan, he is instead the next Richard Nixon.
First, we saw President Obama’s top advisor, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, use a Sunday-morning national show, Face the Nation, to say Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican Party. Then Wednesday, President Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, wrote a column in the Washington Post entitled, “Minority Leader Rush Limbaugh.” And President Obama himself publicly told Republicans to reject Mr. Limbaugh.
Now Politico reports this strategy was planned months ago. Democrat pollster Stan Greenberg worked with Mr. Emanuel, James Carville and Paul Begala to find a boogey-man. Their polling indicated that Mr. Limbaugh would be a tempting target to alienate moderate voters from the GOP. Then in an effort to undermine their political opposition, they planned to deceitfully portray Mr. Limbaugh as the leader of the GOP.
What else should the Obama administration be doing? How about determining the proper protocol when heads of state visit? Prime Minister Brown, representing our strongest ally, deserves more class than DVD’s. Even I would be insulted by a DVD boxed set.
Or how about a little light reading in economics (as the White House apparently doesn’t understand the nuts and bolts of what works)? Even today, Obama was quoted as saying he’d much rather be doing other things than worrying about the our financial system.
From the Washington Times:
Little by little, as the U.S. economy falls deeper into the recession, President Obama and his top White House staff are beginning to make political mistakes.
Last week, as the stock market plunged below the Dow’s 7,000 mark – losing 1,500 points since his Inauguration, Mr. Obama casually dismissed the sharp drop in equity values, comparing it to the ups and downs of a poll.
The stock market “is sort of like a tracking poll in politics,” he told news reporters Tuesday. “You know, it bobs up and down day to day. And if you spend all your time worrying about that, then you’re probably going to get the long-term strategy wrong.”
Excuse me? Tracking poll? The stock market represents the life savings and investments of millions of workers. More than 50 percent of American households, roughly 2 out of every 3 voters, own stock in the U.S. economy. We are talking about people’s retirement finances here that they see vanishing before their eyes, and millions of these investors are middle-class Americans struggling to make ends meet.
